The Sebezhsky National Park

The National Park was created by a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation in January 1996. The area is 50021 hectares. The goal is to preserve natural complexes and objects that have a special ecological, historical and aesthetic value, and create conditions for the development of organized recreation. In the south, the reserve has a common border with Belarus, in the west - with Latvia. In the territory of the park there are 49 settlements, including the city of Sebezh.

The territory of the national park is located within the belt of the Belarussian-Valdai ridges, which includes Sebezhskaya and Velikolukskaya ridges. Almost all known forms of glacial relief and sediments are concentrated here, therefore the territory of the park is considered a "geomorphologic-geological museum", and Sebezhsky district is called "Pskov Switzerland" for its wealth by lakes.

In the Sebezhsky Park rare species of flora and fauna included in the Red Book of the Russian Federation are noted: among the birds there are 17 species (including Black-throated Loon, Black Stork, Lesser White-fronted Goose, Osprey, Red Kite, White-tailed Eagle, peregrine falcon). Also 22 species of animals listed in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature were identified here.
